1.
Allergies Conscious - We make ourselves aware of clients allergies, we
supply ph neutral soaps etc.
2.
Bulk soap and shampoo dispensers in all our shower rooms, instead of
individual bottles, in turn reducing landfill impact.
3.
We use biodegradable napkins, tissues and plastics where possible.
4.
We make our own compost from the biodegradable food waste and cardboard.
5.
We supply cotton towels and sheets, these are from a renewable source
and do not utilise petrochemicals in the manufacture.
6.
In the Bed and breakfast we use only durable cups, glasses, tableware
etc. Nothing we use is disposable and therefore not filling up
landfill sites. Although anything that we do use that is
disposable is recyclable.
7.
All our food is either grown on site or sourced locally. This
reduces the need for excessive transport costs.
8.
When you stay with us you will find an information / questionnaire and
suggestion sheet in your welcome pack. Please take a few minutes
to read the information, to answer the questions and give us suggestions
of how we might improve our carbon footprint, or just tell us how you
have improved your own carbon footprint.
9.
All our staff are well versed in our processes and how we try to not
impact on the environment.
10. Throughout our Guesthouse and our own house we have purchased the
most efficient electrical appliances and are using compact fluorescent
lighting where possible. The whole property is completely
insulated, that being when the property was constructed we had
insulation place in every external and internal wall, all ceilings and
floors. Therefore this property is cool in the summer and warm in
the winter, this in turn does away for the need of air conditioning and
extensive heating.
11. All our staff are trained in the use of cleaning materials and do
not use any harsh chemicals for our laundry and general cleaning.
Where possible we use natures natural cleaners like vinegar and lemon
etc.
12. All our rooms have exterior opening windows with fly screens,
allowing clients access to fresh air at all times. Each room has
access to an exterior terrace, where clients can sit and enjoy the
views, eat their breakfast or watch the day go by in peace and quiet.
13. All our grey water is put through the new EU regulation sceptic
tanks and because the waste is nigh on filtered completely away, the
water at the end of the process is clean enough to be used for
irrigation purposes.
14. Guests are invited to recycle their waste and we have supplied
separate bins in guests rooms for this purpose, there are also recycling
bins around the bed and breakfast areas.
15. Our Bed and Breakfast has a non-smoking policy for the whole of the
building. We do supply exterior bins for cigarette ends outside
each room and because it rarely rains here this should not inconvenience
clients to any extent.
16.We run a sheet and towel exchange program, this means that we do not
automatically change these items and request clients to inform us when
they would like us to change them. This in turn cuts down on the
laundry, but this does not mean that we do not wash our sheets and
towels between guests.
17. Majority of our toilets have low level flushes and utilise as little
water as possible for their flush, conserving as much water as possible.
18. Our swimming pool will be heated by a system of irrigation piping
heated by the sun.
